Military Standard Rain Test Chamber

I. Product Overview:

GJB 1508A Military Standard Wind and Rain Test Chamber It is primarily used by research institutions in the fields of electronics and electrical engineering, aerospace, and military standards for testing and evaluating the protection of external lighting, signaling devices, and automotive lamp housings. This rain‑and‑wind test chamber was developed in accordance with military‑standard specifications to simulate the harsh outdoor conditions of rainfall or severe windstorms, with a focus on conducting preliminary environmental‑adaptability tests for military‑standard‑compliant instruments and products.

II. Technical Procedures

1. Procedure 1: Rainfall and Wind-Driven Rain Test : Suitable for outdoor equipment without rain‑proofing, this system simulates natural storm conditions by simultaneously applying vertical rainfall and horizontal wind, accurately replicating the extreme coupled effects of wind and rain. Key parameters are flexibly adjustable: rainfall intensity ranges from 10 to 20 cm/h (with a recommended standard intensity of 1.7 mm/min), wind speed from 5 to 20 m/s (with 18 m/s recommended for typical heavy‑rainstorm conditions), droplet diameter from 0.5 to 4.5 mm, and droplet velocity approximately 9 m/s. Test durations are ≥30 minutes and can be freely set, enabling thorough verification of the equipment’s sealing performance and operational effectiveness under dynamic wind‑and‑rain exposure.

2. Procedure Two: Enhanced Rain-Exposure Test : Designed for scenarios where conventional rain‑blowing tests cannot be conducted on large equipment—such as communication vehicles and large modular shelters—this system employs a high‑pressure spray mode. While it does not replicate natural rainfall patterns, it significantly enhances the reliability of waterproofing assessments, accurately revealing sealing design flaws and weak points at joints. Key parameters: spray pressure ≥ 276 kPa (replacing the previous standard of 376 kPa), with 12 top‑mounted stainless‑steel nozzles featuring adjustable angles; nozzle spacing of 350 mm; droplet size ranging from 0.5 to 4.5 mm; test duration ≥ 40 minutes and continuously adjustable; enabling efficient verification of the overall water tightness of large‑scale equipment.

3. Procedure Three: Water-Drop Test : Suitable for equipment that is generally rain‑proof but may be exposed to condensation or dripping from the upper surface (e.g., ceiling‑mounted devices in cabins), simulating a scenario of continuous dripping. Key parameters: drip rate of 280 ± 30 L/m²/h, droplet spacing of 20–25 mm, droplet velocity approximately 9 m/s, test duration ≥ 15 min and adjustable; the test primarily evaluates the sealing performance of the equipment’s top cover, the continuity of welds, and the design adequacy of venting and pressure‑relief valves.

III. Technical Advantages

1. Military‑grade precision control with traceable parameters Equipped with a high-precision touch-screen controller, it supports multi-segment programming and cyclic operation, enabling precise setting and real-time monitoring of key parameters such as rainfall intensity, wind speed, water pressure, test duration, and water temperature. The parameter adjustment boasts high accuracy (water pressure accuracy ±5 kPa). All test data are recorded in real time, exportable, and fully traceable, meeting the stringent military‑standard requirements for product quality management—namely, process reliability and verifiable results—thereby ensuring the repeatability and credibility of test data.

2. Full-spectrum simulation, closely aligned with real-world operating conditions. It employs an independently controlled recirculating air‑flow system and a multidimensional spray array to achieve coupled wind–rain dynamic control, enabling stable generation of raindrops across the full spectrum, from 0.5 to 4.5 mm, thereby replicating the complex distribution of droplet sizes found in natural rainfall. Equipped with a programmable rotary worktable—featuring adjustable speeds of 3 to 10 rpm and optional load capacities of 50 to 200 kg—it can rotate test specimens, ensuring that all surfaces susceptible to rain exposure are fully subjected to test conditions. Additionally, it incorporates a precision preheating platform capable of raising specimen temperatures by 10°C ± 2°C above the water temperature, creating internal negative pressure to significantly enhance the sensitivity and severity of sealing tests, closely mirroring the real‑world operating environments of field‑deployed equipment.

3. Durable and corrosion-resistant, stable and reliable The equipment’s main body is constructed from military‑grade materials, with an inner chamber made of imported SUS304 stainless steel and an outer enclosure crafted from high‑quality insulated panels or electrostatically powder‑coated steel sheet—offering excellent corrosion resistance, easy cleaning, and a long service life. Core components—including the high‑pressure water pump, stainless‑steel nozzles, and circulating fan—are sourced from reputable brands, while the piping utilizes either environmentally friendly PPR reinforced tubing or imported PU pressure‑rated hoses. Equipped with dual‑stage water filtration, the system effectively prevents clogging and corrosion, withstands prolonged exposure to high‑pressure water flow and strong airflow, and ensures leak‑free, rust‑free operation, thereby guaranteeing stable, long‑term performance and meeting the demanding requirements of high‑intensity, high‑frequency military‑standard testing.

4. Multi-layered security protection, easy to operate Equipped with multiple safety features—including fan and pump overload protection, as well as safeguards against leakage current, phase loss, and overheating—this equipment ensures both reliable operation and operator safety. Its user-friendly interface supports parameter presets and program recalls, enabling rapid switching between test standards and procedures, so it can be operated proficiently without specialized technical expertise. Additionally, noise levels are kept below 80 dB, optimizing the laboratory working environment. The system also offers non‑standard customization options, allowing tailored configurations for chamber dimensions, turntable load capacity, nozzle arrangements, and other specifications to meet the size, weight, and unique testing requirements of the equipment under test, thereby supporting the evaluation of various military‑standard devices.

III. Applicable Scenarios and Application Areas

The equipment is widely used in military‑standard systems, aerospace, the automotive industry, outdoor gear, and third‑party testing laboratories. It is specifically designed to evaluate the following products and applications, enabling comprehensive verification of product waterproofing and sealing performance, operational effectiveness in and after rain, structural stability, and the efficacy of drainage systems:
