Project Background

To evaluate the rain‑resistance performance of an electric motorcycle, it must undergo a rain‑exposure test. Because most components and joints are exposed, the adequacy of its protective measures in rainy conditions has a significant impact on the vehicle’s usability. The standard GB 24155‑2009, “Safety Requirements for Electric Motorcycles and Electric Mopeds,” sets forth the following requirements regarding the rain‑proofing capability of electric vehicles.

Scheme Overview

The rain‑exposure test for electric vehicles and motorcycles is conducted to verify the performance of the service braking system following failure of the transmission device. Such failure may result from a malfunction of the brake hose or brake cable, and it applies to vehicles equipped with a linked braking system in which multiple service braking circuits share a hydraulic or mechanical transmission device. The test employs an IPX3‑rated shower‑type spray nozzle; the nozzle can be mounted on a bracket, eliminating the need for manual holding. Both the spray angle and spray height are manually adjustable, and the flow rate meets the 10 L/min standard. Testing can be performed simply by connecting to a municipal water supply.

Rain‑exposure testing for electric and gasoline motorcycles is a crucial step in evaluating their all‑weather performance. To address the protection of the motorcycle’s electrical system, engine, and other components during such tests, several solutions can be implemented. For instance, to safeguard the electrical circuitry, enclosed plastic covers or rubber seals can be used to prevent rainwater ingress. As for the engine and other parts, waterproof materials—such as water‑proof adhesives or protective coatings—can be applied to shield them from prolonged exposure to rain.
